Are there any items that are not supported that I may want to know about?

Anyone who has dabbled in web site design may wonder what our service doesn't support (as no service supports everything). The following covers the most common topics:

CGI Scripting--we offer some tools and features that use CGI scripts. However, we do not support CGI programming on the user level. This is done for security reasons. However, there are many web sites on the Internet which support CGI scripts for you and allow you to link to that service.

Front Page Extensions--Microsoft Front Page extensions and SSI (Server Side Includes) are not supported. Therefore, save your FrontPage created web site in HTML. Click here for details.

File types--Only the following file types can be uploaded: htm, html, txt, wav, au, mid, gif, jpg, jpeg, js, png and css. If you created you web site using ".ASP", FrontPage Extensions or other non-HTML formats, they will need to be converted to HTML format. Other file types can frequently be added upon request provided they are not executable programs and are not extremely large (e.g. mp3).

index.html--On some web servers, the filename for your home page may be something other than "index.html". What you need to do is find your home page and rename it to "index.html" or "index.htm" and fix any links to the home page in the same way. You can use the file manager to rename the files.

Other template systems--If you are using another company's templates to build your web site, that system may restrict you from copying the HTML pages from their site and moving it to ours. That is not a restriction we place but some other sites may.

Further, all web site template systems are proprietary to the developer of the system and as such, you won't be able to modify a page created with another company's templates at our site other than by using the HTML editor we provide with the file manager.

You can go back to the original question or learn about:

  • Certain restrictions on what type of sites we will host.
  • Certain requirements for your computer system in order to create a web site.
